Established in Bolton in 1924

For almost 100 years we’ve been manufacturing, installing and supplying industrial doors, fire shutters, security shutters and collapsible gates across the globe often for specifications others have found impossible. We have earned a reputation for professionalism, quality and reliability.

Our industrial doors, fire shutters and security shutters are then installed on site by fully trained, specialist installation teams.

Bolton Gate Company Timeline

2021

Owners agree to sell the business to current MD, who now becomes sole owner. New senior management team appointed and tasked with developing organic growth.

2020

COVID 19 strikes albeit BGCo proudly remains trading throughout the worldwide pandemic continuing to offer a full service to its Clients despite the unprecedented global economic downturn.

2018

Company agrees to sell its Service Division, Bolton Gate Services Ltd to Novaferm UK but retains it’s manufacturing business operating out of Waterloo Street, Bolton.

2000

Development of a new service division, Bolton Gate Services Ltd offering repair & maintenance on a nationwide basis

1997

Management buy-out by five senior staff.

1996

Turton Street site sold and becomes Bolton Gate Retail Park; production reverts to Waterloo Street factory.

1995

Bolton Brady Repair & Service Division sold; Manufacturing Company reverts to former name Bolton Gate Company Ltd.

1984

Robert Eric Morley sells the Company to Tarmac PLC who merge it with a previously acquired competitor (Brady Doors) to form largest industrial door group in the UK, Bolton Brady.

1960

Manufacturing facility expanded onto the site of previously demolished Peel Mills 2 & 3 on Turton Street, Bolton.

1950

Commenced export with the support and cooperation of a network of agents in the Far East, Middle East and Europe.

1946

The Company begins to diversify into other door types notably folding and rolling shutters.

1939

Registered as a private Limited Company on 9th January 1939.

1935

Relocated manufacturing to Waterloo Street, Bolton. Main offices moved into Knowles Mill on Turton Street, Bolton.

1930

First surviving promotional letter and product flyers.

1928

First completed project with surviving documentation – Spearhead Gates for the Rialto Super Cinema in Rochdale. The cinema was opened by Gracie Fields on 27 August 1928.

1924

Founded in Tipping Street, Bolton by Robert Eric Morley as manufacturers of collapsible gates for lifts. The Company participated in the King’s National Roll Scheme founded in 1919 to guarantee employment for disabled servicemen.
